Biography
Sophie Borenstein is a partner and head of the firm’s Tax Department. She advises clients on French and international tax matters, both in terms of advice and litigation.
She has also developed a particular expertise in wealth management and tax management in France as well as in cross-border issues, particularly with Anglo-Saxon countries (United States, United Kingdom, Australia, etc.). She also has significant experience in maritime taxation.
Her expertise in international and multi-jurisdictional situations is particularly well recognized. In addition to the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Switzerland, Jersey and Guernsey, for which she has specific expertise that has been recognized by the Chambers HNW and Legal 500 guides, Sophie regularly handles cases involving Belgium, Luxembourg, Italy, Canada, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, Singapore, Spain and Portugal.
Sophie Borenstein is recommended by the following legal guides: Chambers HNW guide, Legal 500 EMEA guide, Legal 500 Paris guide. The Legal 500 guide also ranks her in the categories “Leading Individuals: Private clients” and “Leading lawyers in the market: private and wealth tax”. She is a frequent speaker at conferences in France and the United States (STEP Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners, EPSG Estate Planning Skill Group, EFE, SFAF).
Sophie was admitted to the Paris Bar in February 1999. Before becoming a partner at Reed Smith, she worked as a lawyer in the international tax and transfer pricing department of PriceWaterhouseCoopers and then in the tax department of Andersen, before working in London as EMEA Tax Manager for the American communications, media and advertising group Omnicom.
