Sophie Borenstein is a partner and head of the firm’s tax team. She acts both in an advisory and litigation capacity in French and international tax matters.

In addition, she has developed particular expertise in property and tax administration both in France and in cross-border matters, especially with Anglo-Saxon countries (United States, United Kingdom, Australia, etc.). She also has significant experience in maritime taxation.

Her expertise in international and multi-jurisdictional matters is particularly recognised. In addition to the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Switzerland, Jersey and Guernsey, where her particular expertise has been praised in particular by Chambers HNW and Legal 500 advisers, Sophie also frequently acts in cases in Belgium, Luxembourg, Italy, Canada, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, Singapore, Spain and Portugal.

Sophie Borenstein is recommended by relevant guides: the Chambers HNW Guide, the Legal 500 EMEA Guide, the Legal 500 Paris Guide. The Legal 500 Guide cites her in the categories “Leading Individuals: Private clients” and “The leading lawyers in the market: private tax and wealth management”.

She is the official French correspondent of the American publisher “Tax Analysts” for the two international tax journals “Tax Notes International” and “Worldwide Tax Daily” and is very regularly interviewed in legal, tax and more general newspapers (such as Les Echos, Le Figaro, Le Monde, l’Agefi, Challenges, Les Petites Affiches, France Info TV…). Sophie also co-authored the book “Fiches de droit fiscal international – Rappel de cours et exercices corrigés“, published by Ellipses in June 2011.

She is a frequent speaker at conferences both in France and in the United States (STEP Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners, EPSG Estate Planning Skill Group, EFE, SFAF).

Sophie was admitted to the French Bar in Paris in February 1999. Prior to becoming a partner at Reed Smith, she worked as an associate in the international tax and transfer pricing department of PriceWaterhouseCoopers and then in the tax department of the law firm Andersen, before working in London as EMEA Tax Manager for the American communications, media and advertising group “Omnicom”.
